Welcome! I’m so glad you’ve stopped by.
I’m Alyssa. I wanted to do a quick post answering some straight-forward questions about me as a professional and normal human. I hope you enjoy!
TL;DR – I live and work in DC. I like to write. I like to read. I like makeup. I like my cat.
- What do you do for a living?
My 9-5 is working as a website and online content specialist at a higher education non-profit. I’m also a freelance journalist on my down time. My current freelance gig is with NIH MedlinePlus magazine.
- Where do you live?
Washington, D.C. I finally feel at home here. I grew up in Connecticut so it’s different, but I love it.
- How old are you?
- Who do you love?
I’m head over heels for my fiancé, Kevin. We’ve been together since November 2011!
- How old are you?
- What’s your childhood dream?
To be an actress! I also wanted to be a nun at one point… oh how we change!
- How often do you laugh?
- What makes you smile?
Family, friends, my morning coffee, Ellie (my kitten), makeup, Autumn, desserts, walks around D.C., finding a good deal, and so much more stuff, I can’t list it all!
- Who’s your most dangerous enemy?
I’ve had enemies in the past, for sure. But I try not to focus on people who have a negative impact on my life. It’s cheesy, but I’m my greatest ally and enemy in one. It’s 100% up to me who I become as a person. If I fail, it’s on me. If I give up, that’s my fault. Every day I get to choose how I live my life.
- Do you think you’re strong?
Mentally – I think so. I do my best to not let my emotions control me, but we all have our days.
Physically – We’re getting there! I joined a gym a couple months ago, and I’m working to earn back the strength I’ve lost working at a desk all day!
- What was the most important thing you’ve done so far?
Gone to college. Without that, I wouldn’t have achieved anything I have so far in my professional life.
- What was the most stupid thing you’ve done so far?
Credit card debt. Having credit is important. Having credit card debt is miserable.
- What do you fear the most?
Biggest fear: Failure (like so many people).
Most consistent and anxiety-inducing fear: Being late for things.
- What is your favorite word?
- What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
Look at my phone. It’s a horrible habit I’m trying to change. But I can’t help myself!
- What are you thinking right before bed?
I usually think about my day and then a bit about what I have to do the next day. I don’t think it’s a very productive practice, because my mind will get away from me and before I know it, it’s 1 a.m.
- When was the last time you cried?
Yesterday, but it was worth it!
- What are you proud of?
My work. I take great pride in what I do for my full-time job and my freelance work.
- What is the best thing that could happen to you right now?
My student loans magically being paid off.
- What is the worst thing that could happen to you right now?
Losing a friend.
- Name The Thing That Annoys You The Most
People being late to things without a legitimate reason. I understand if traffic was nuts, or you blew a tire. I don’t understand why you needed to stop in to TJ Maxx really quickly.
- What one thing would you change in your life right now?
I’d like to move out of the city, but proximity to work is too convenient!
- Do you have secrets?
Of course, everyone does!
- Do you regret anything?
We all do, but I try not to focus on the regrets, but the lessons I’ve learned from them.
- Picture yourself in 5 years.
I’d love to be working for myself 100% out of a lovely home office.
- Are you happy?
I try my best to be!
- Sum up your life in one sentence.
Well, that was something.
